“FOUNDATION CARTIER ENTERS A NEW ERA

AT PALAIS-ROYAL”

The Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain has begun a new chapter in the heart of Paris. After more than three decades on Boulevard Raspail, the institution has relocated to 2 Place du Palais-Royal, directly opposite the Louvre, placing contemporary creation within one of the city’s most historic cultural districts.

The new Fondation occupies a nineteenth-century Haussmannian building that once housed the Grands Magasins du Louvre. Reimagined by architect Jean Nouvel, the interior radically transforms the historic structure into a flexible exhibition space. Five large mobile platforms can be repositioned at eleven different heights, allowing the architecture itself to change according to each exhibition.

“Exposition Générale”

Its inaugural exhibition, remains on view until 23 August 2026. Drawing on four decades of the Fondation Cartier’s history, the exhibition brings together nearly 600 works by more than 100 artists, presenting an expansive portrait of the institution’s approach to contemporary creation since 1984.

Currently joining the programme is Raymond Hains: A Work Under Construction. From the Grand Louvre to the 3 Cartier, running until 26 October 2026. The project has a particularly fitting relationship with its surroundings, extending beyond the Fondation itself into the nearby Galerie Valois at Palais-Royal.

More than simply a change of address, the move signals an ambitious transformation for Fondation Cartier: architecture, art, fashion and performance are brought together within a space designed to continually change with the work it contains.
